Encouragement for Moms
~Words for Wednesdays~
mom and baby playing

I am a good mom.

Say it out loud with me!

Did you find that hard to say?
I did.
Did you find it even more difficult to really settle it in your heart
without a steady stream of accusations floating through your mind?
What?!?
You didn’t wear your baby?  You didn’t potty train by 2?
You’ve had to rewash the towels 3 times because you can’t remember to put them in the dryer?  AND your 9th grader isn’t taking Advanced Calculus this year?   😀

Yeah…still…You ARE a good mom.
Why is this such a hard bunch of words to speak and believe about ourselves ?
Truly, I don’t know of a more loving, giving, hard-working group of ladies
than the mamas that I am blessed to know.
We may all have very different parenting styles, and a different set of goals for our families and ourselves, but one thing we all have in common…We love our children very much.
And love covers a multitude of sins !

I AM A GOOD MOM.
This week’s Words for Wednesday.
Practice saying them aloud to yourself till you believe them…then share them
with a friend.

I read a lovely blog post today written by Danielle, a mom just like us.
Need some encouragement?  Know another mama who needs a reassuring word?
Read this post and pass it along!!!

Go out and PLAY !!

leaves explosion
“If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children… we should have happier households.

Let the mother go out to play!

If she would only have courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense,
and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book,
or in a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures,
or in bed, without the children,
life would go on far more happily for both children and parents.”                                                                                                                                      ~Charlotte Mason

Let the mother go out to play !

Don’t you just love those words ?
Children have no trouble playing.
Fun is pulsing through their veins and wiggling out of every limb.
Play just comes naturally to them.
If left alone long enough, children invent the most wonderful games and fantastic stories.
Creativity and imagination are limitless, emotions are being worked out,
FUN is happening !
Think about it…kids generally don’t return from playing outside all stressed out!  🙂

When was the last time that YOU went out to play mom ?

“Men do not quit playing because they grow old;   they grow old because they quit playing.”

Making Memories

What is your happiest childhood memory?

Really.
Stop and think hard.
Close your eyes and remember.
Think of the all the little details.
It will make you smile.
Even today.

Ever think of how your own children might answer this question someday?

Every day, we have the opportunity to create memories with the people we love.
It doesn’t have to involve expensive vacations or extravagant gifts…just some thought
and some time and lots of love.
Get creative !

I have two (update: THREE😱)  kids in their 20’s.
Every year they ask if we can still carve pumpkins.
It’s a tradition.
They bring their friends…we laugh…throw pumpkin guts…make a huge, sticky mess…
toast pumpkin seeds…eat snacks…and watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!”.

I don’t know about how life changing or meaningful any of that may be,
but every year,  I take a deep breath,
and let the crazy mess begin,
and know we’re making another memory.

Need some easy memory making ideas today?

Here’s a list that I absolutely LOVE,   just to get you started.

I love fall !
Fun Fall Family Activities!
Fall is my Friday Favorite today.  🙂
I LOVE FALL !
The cooler weather, breezy and brisk;
the beautiful colors,  reds and rusts;
cozy sweaters, hot spiced ciders, and roaring bonfires, oh my!
It just makes me want to get outside.
The change of seasons seems to bring some kind of refreshment to the soul.

This Friday’s favorites are all fall…
**Note:  I think you can enjoy these ideas most anywhere in the country even if it’s
85* like it is today here in Texas.   Alas, I lit my pumpkin candle & sipped my pumpkin spice coffee while writing this post.   It is raining (BIG change), and  it’s 85* today.  That is a change from 105* at least.   It’s fall, y’all !    🙂

Go on a nature walk !

My Friday Favorite…

smile medicine cap !smile bagel

Smile Veggies

Sometimes it’s all in how you see things !

I see a bagel, some veggies, and a bottle cap… pretty dang exciting stuff.
What do you see ?  Do you see it now ?
Kinda funny actually.
Wonder how many of these little giggles I’ve missed out on!

Some days we need a little creativity to
find the humor in life.
Is my bagel really grinning at me ?

Some days we need a little creativity to laugh.
I think that bottle cap just winked at me !
A good belly laugh or at least a chuckle can be right in our faces…… It is often simply all in the way we look at the little things.

I have a Facebook friend who frequently posts pictures of these
smiles in hidden places from time to time.
She’s had her share of tough things to walk through in life,
but she chooses to look for and see, what is good  (and funny!)
about life!
She knows that these little smiles are reminders from God that she is never alone, and so she continues to look for them and share them as an encouragement to us all !

If you aren’t looking for them,
you might not even notice they’re there.

Hope you will look for and  find a hidden smile just for YOU today!

So, can I have 2 favorites today ?
I mean, it IS Friday after all.

It kind of ties in with creativity….
I really wanted to share it because it is such a great, creative  🙂 idea !!

Have you ever thought of making magnets out of magazine  (Click on link to see more!)  cut outs , or coloring books, or even old books
(gasp!  I know!) ?
You could make them for anything your child is interested in or learning about at the time…AG Dolls, working trucks, kinds of fall leaves or flowers, birds,  ABC’s, or cut outs of words for poetry making.
I think they’d be great on cookie sheets in the car and  on the fridge at home.
The ideas are endless !

Happy Friday y’all !
