If you are just stopping by for the first time, you may be wondering what in the world I mean by  “fields of daisies” days.      🙂

So, without further ado…on to the fun!!

Earlier this week, I posted some thoughts on being able to SEE the good and the Mercy in each day… and I kept thinking, in the least,  we all have days that test our patience.

It’s so frustrating when our plans change, or sickness happens, or there are endless trips to and from,  and “school” gets put on hold.

How do you homeschool on days like these?

Some days are just difficult, but making them into the best, most memorable kinds of days is totally possible.  It’s more than possible!
(REALLY this IS a fun post!  I promise!  Keep reading !)

 

So HOW do we do it ?!?
Look for the daisy moments!

Here are some ideas.

 


* When mama is sick~

 Can it be a good day when Mom is sick in bed?
Depends on how you see it!

THIS is a perfect field of daisies kind of day!


– Curl up together and listen to your favorite books.  There are TONS of free audiobooks for all ages.
Listen to some stories that might be brand new to you!
There are some fantastic ones out there that have so much to teach…about science, or math, or history!

* The feeling blue kind of day~
Try ditching the regular routine and do something happy !!

– Just talk to each other.

Some of the very deepest conversations I’ve had with my children have happened spontaneously while in the car.  Maybe it is the lack of distractions, or maybe because we have each other as a
captive audience.  🙂
Either way, don’t “miss it” and stress about all that isn’t getting done at home… lots of important life can be found in the confines of the car.


– Roll the windows down and SING!
   Sing LOUD too!
  Ahhhhh.  Doesn’t that feel so good?!?!

Get outside!
Even in the rain or slush !   The kids don’t mind, and stomping in puddles can make you feel like you’re 5.
And that’s a good thing.    🙂

** Election Day is coming up!  **

It’s almost election day!
Excited about it, or not this year, it’s a great way to teach our children some very important lessons.
Why not take a break from the routine and make a quick brush up on the election process?
Maybe even take them along when you go to vote!

Who doesn’t love to color ?!?
There’s something so cheery about a new box of crayons
& a good coloring book! 

Coloring is a great activity to keep the wiggles to a minimum
while listening to a read aloud, when everyone needs a mental break,
while waiting for a sibling’s practice to end,
in the kitchen while mom is cooking dinner,
or anytime, really !

Leaves are falling and the air is crisp even here in Texas.

     Story Time !
~Friday Favorites~

My Friday Favorite this week is story time.
Some of the sweetest memories with my children have been made while all curled up reading books together.

Can you remember your favorite childhood books?

My children all have theirs and can even still remember some of them word for word… we may have read ‘Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?‘  one or five thousand times.  🙂

Another way our family has enjoyed great story times is by listening to someone else read the story.  We would pile up on the couch with blankets and pillows and snacks, or in a fort built on somebody’s bed and enjoy the story together.   This is especially fun on a cold or rainy winter’s day.

Listening to a book being read aloud builds so many wonderful skills, and if you have a reluctant reader in the mix, this might be a way to help them appreciate all the joys of a good book without the frustration!

There are so many great audio books available for free (and to buy) !
These books are a great resource to use for history, for english, for science & nature study, for snuggle times, ok…you get it…for anytime!

Need a break?  The kids need a break?   Go on a nature walk & then come back in, get cozy with a cup of cocoa, and listen to a classic Thornton Burgess story.   LOVE this one!  🙂

Fun Fall Family Activities!
Fall is my Friday Favorite today.  🙂
I LOVE FALL !
The cooler weather, breezy and brisk;
the beautiful colors,  reds and rusts;
cozy sweaters, hot spiced ciders, and roaring bonfires, oh my!
It just makes me want to get outside.
The change of seasons seems to bring some kind of refreshment to the soul.

This Friday’s favorites are all fall…
**Note:  I think you can enjoy these ideas most anywhere in the country even if it’s
85* like it is today here in Texas.   Alas, I lit my pumpkin candle & sipped my pumpkin spice coffee while writing this post.   It is raining (BIG change), and  it’s 85* today.  That is a change from 105* at least.   It’s fall, y’all !    🙂

Anyhow, for me Friday means the beginning of the weekend…Yahoo!
Hopefully sleeping in a little, a lazy Saturday morning in my pjs with coffee & Pinterest,  and since I’m here in Texas, it means Friday night football games !
All good reasons to celebrate the day.  🙂
