Psalm 1 Praying the Psalms

Daily Bread from the Psalms (Psalm 1)

Daily Bread: Thoughts and Prayers from the Book of Psalms

Psalm 1

Welcome to the Psalms!

I’m so happy to have you here!
I’ve been reading and praying through the Psalms this month, and I thought it would be fun to share my prayers and thoughts with you as I go, and hopefully hear yours as well!   What stuck out to you today? Was there a verse that encouraged you or made you ask yourself some hard questions?
Leave me a comment and lets talk about it!
Or just say hello and let me know that you’re following along!
The Family of God is so diverse, and it always amazes me how each unique piece fits together with the others.  Imagine designing a puzzle this large!  I would LOVE to hear what YOU are seeing in the Psalms each day… I bet your piece and mine put together would make the picture even clearer and brighter!  So please feel free to share!

And so you know what to expect, I’m keeping it super simple
Just the Psalm, a thought or two, and a prayer.   I have also tried to include a song for each Psalm.  I love to hear the Scriptures in song-  they somehow stick better.  And actually, most of the Psalms we read were written to be sung!
You can find an index of the Psalms at the bottom of this page, if you’d like to jump to your favorite one!

So let’s get started!

Here is Psalm 1.
Just one more note about the Bible links.  I always link to Bible Gateway.  They have a fantastic bunch of resources.  You may enjoy reading the Psalms in different translations, checking out the meaning of a word or two, or even listening to the audio versions (personal favorite bedtime routine!).
Hope your heart is filled and encouraged through His word!

Who doesn’t want to be happy and content?
Reading and praying through Psalm 1 is a great place to start!

Happy & Content

is the person who doesn’t look for
advice or wisdom or peace
from the ungodly.

LORD you are all knowing and the Prince of Peace.
Remind us to turn to you first when we need direction.

Content
is the person who doesn’t
stand and consider
going down the path everyone else is traveling.

LORD you have a purpose and plan for each one of us.
Keep our feet on the path you’ve paved.
If we stray, shepherd us back on the trail.
Remind us that we are never alone on the less traveled road.

Happy & Content
is the person who doesn’t
sit down quietly when Jesus is mocked & the People of God scoffed.

LORD stir up courage when we see You and those who love you
mocked or made fun of.
Remind us of your Word… and provoke us to speak it with power!

Want to be happy and content?
Delight yourself in Jesus !
Consider His counsel.
Go on His path.
Stand for Him.
Speak in His name.

For… the LORD watches over the way of the RIGHTEOUS (that’s us!)
therefore
Whatever we do will PROSPER !!

LORD we thank you for making us righteous in YOU!
You are our delight and our eyes are set on you.
Make us happy and content as we consider Your ways, and Your counsel,
and as we walk along Your path together.
Give us courage to stand and speak Your Name at every turn.
And as You prosper us, remind us all good things come from Your hand.
In the precious name of Jesus, AMEN!
