What’s in this Unit Study?
Read the scope and sequence –> American Girl History Unit Studies OVERVIEW
Welcome to the 8th Unit Study in the American Girl History series!
World War 2 ?! Molly couldn’t believe her ears! This couldn’t be happening! In this Unit, we will learn what life was like in America during the days of the second World War.
Molly of course knew all about the war being fought a world away in places like Europe and Africa, but one cold morning in December, the war that had been so far away had come to American soil. In one moment everything changed.
Where was Pearl Harbor? Why did the Japanese bomb it? Would America’s enemies come again and attack another city? Fathers and brothers shipped out to fight. Mothers and sisters went to work in the factories. Everyone wanted to help with the war efforts. But what could Molly and her friends do?
Welcome to Molly’s World 1944!
Hands-On learning makes history come to life!
There are also tons of hands-on activities to try each week to try. Take a virtual field trip to a World War 2 Museum, try some Ration Recipes, listen to an old time Variety Radio Show, or see if your spy skills are good enough to carry out the Morse Mission!
I hope your WHOLE FAMILY will enjoy learning together!
So, what about the BOYS ? Is this unit something they will enjoy too ? YES !
While the unit is “American Girl”, the boys will surely enjoy every part of this study too!
If the AG books are a bit too girl focused for them, simply replace that reading with another of the suggested books on the list and VOILA! I have written the units so that you can easily substitute your own ideas into the daily plans to make it a perfect fit for your family!
Age Range for This Unit:
This unit is designed to include all ages. It is written for about the 5th grade level, but can easily be modified/supplemented and used for both younger and older children. The daily lesson plans are written for a 3 week period, but could stretch out easily to 6 weeks (or more) if you choose to explore all the listed websites or read more from the Great Books List.
