Daily Bread: Thoughts and Prayers from the Psalms
~ Psalm 13 ~
Despair. Do you ever wrestle with that?
Sorrow has a way of clouding our vision. Do feelings about your difficult circumstances ever overwhelm the truth that you know? As we read in Psalm 10 this week, it is quite easy to take our focus off Jesus when we are facing hard times. Those feelings of doubt, discouragement, and sadness can creep in and cause our faith to shudder. Don’t beat yourself up too much though. You aren’t alone in doing this. Remember Peter and the whole walking on water story (Matthew 14:22-34)? And in today’s Psalm, David is right there with us too. It’s interesting to me that David doesn’t shy away from confessing his feelings to God. He cries out to Him with the truth of how he is feeling… but ends his prayer/song with something MUCH GREATER than his feelings. The TRUTH he knows of God. We can do the same today!
LORD
I am wrestling.
My thoughts
are triumphing over me
like my enemy.
My heart is full
of great sorrow.
If I fall
my enemy will rejoice.
LORD,
Don’t forget me.
Don’t hide your face from me.
LOOK on me
and
ANSWER my calls
and
GIVE LIGHT to my eyes !
Still LORD,
To you I will say,
I TRUST
in your unfailing love !
I will REJOICE
in your salvation !
And
I WILL SING
for You have been
GOOD to me !
