Psalm 33 – Daily Bread From the Psalms

Daily Bread:  Thoughts & Prayers  from the Psalms

~ Psalm 33 ~

“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.”  ~Colossians 1:16

ALL things have been created THROUGH Him, and FOR Him!  Did you catch that?!
That means me…and you…and our kids…and their kids…and your nice neighbor…and your not-so-nice neighbor…and the pompous politician…and the angry news anchor…and the angsty teenager…and the addict…and the abuser… and well, you get the picture.
For “from heaven the LORD looks down and sees ALL mankind;  from His dwelling place He WATCHES all who live on the earth-  He who forms the HEARTS of all, who considers everything they do…”
(Psalm 33:13-15)

Have you ever had a child rebel?
Say they hate you?  Do the very things you’ve taught them not to do?  I have.  And it hurts like nothing I’ve ever experienced  (if you have too and need a little encouragement, you can read about my story here, and what I’ve learned).  In Psalm 33, we are urged to rejoice and praise the Lord for His incredible creation!  And I have, and I do.  But today as I read, I stopped with verses 13-15, stuck as something in me just grieved.
I cannot begin to imagine what the FATHER, who so lovingly and carefully created the hearts of every single human, feels as He “considers everything they do” as He watches us.  The days we live in are just so backwards.  Our culture calls evil good, and good evil.  The heart of man is broken and still refuses to turn back to the Lord.  I’ve had ONE child rebel, imagine God’s grief as He considers.

But keep reading.
The writer of this Psalm isn’t going to leave us without REDEMPTION.
The LORD is good.  He is faithful.  He is right and true.
And the earth is FULL of His unfailing love.
“The plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of HIS HEART through all generations”  (Psalm 33:11).
His eyes are also on all of us who know Him and love Him.  He sees us too!
So maybe we should sing a bit louder today…make up a new song about our Dad!
Praise Him with abandon… dance a little!  Be a little lavish with our love poured out for Him today.
He’s SUCH a good Father!
And I bet that it fills Him with joy to see His children loving Him like that!

LET US
SING  JOYFULLY
to the LORD !

LET US
Sing to Him
a NEW song !

LET US
Make MUSIC to Him
and
SHOUT FOR JOY !

LET US
PRAISE the LORD
for
His WORD is right and true
He is FAITHFUL in all
and
He loves RIGHTEOUSNESS and JUSTICE !

The whole earth is FULL
of His unfailing LOVE !

SING TO THE LORD
for at His WORD…
the heavens were made
the stars were placed in the sky
and
the seas were gathered.
He SPOKE
and it came to BE.

The plans of the LORD
stand firm
FOREVER,
the purposes of His HEART
through all generations.

BLESSED
is the nation
whose God is the LORD
and
the people He CHOSE
for His inheritance !

SING JOYFULLY
for
the LORD watches all
who dwell on the earth
and
He considers
everything they do.

His eyes are on
all who FEAR Him
on all who HOPE
in His UNFAILING LOVE.

SHOUT FOR JOY !

The LORD is
our  HELP
and our SHIELD.

We will wait in HOPE
for the LORD.
We will TRUST in His holy name.

And we will SING
“May your unfailing LOVE
rest upon us, O LORD,
as we put our HOPE 
in you.”

Just another little note  🙂
If you haven’t ever tried writing out Scripture, you might be surprised at how meaningful this exercise can be!   I am finding it really makes me slow down and think on each word.
