Daily Bread from the Psalms (Psalm 2 – 3)

Psalms 2 and 3

“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?”

David’s words throughout the Psalms are just as current today as they were when he wrote them.  As we read and pray through each Psalm, it’s easy to echo David’s cry for things like justice, righteousness, and good.  But do we cry out against evil?  Does it grieve our hearts?
Don’t worry, today’s thoughts and prayers are not going to be any type of angry tirade 😀    Just a bit of a contemplation of the root of these two Psalms, and perhaps our response in such a time as this.

Do you see a shift in our society’s respect for God?
Once, an older friend was telling me about an experience he had in his early 20’s.  Another couple that were close friends of his, had a baby and named it God.  He remembered how shocking and offensive this was. Even though the majority claimed not to believe in God at all, they knew this had crossed a line somewhere, somehow.

How would people react today to this? 
I’d love to know your perspective…and what you’ve experienced where you live.  Perhaps this lack of respect for God is more blatant than ever before, but disregard for God is nothing new.
Psalms 2 and 3 will walk us through David’s cry against it.  I love how passionate he is to honor the Lord, as well as to DECLARE God’s goodness to all those who belong to Him!
And as we read, make these words a prayer for your city, the country, and the whole world... that wisdom would rise up and all people would fear God, and receive the inheritance that is ours from creation !

But He said to me,
“You are my Son;
Today I have become your Father.
ASK
and I will make the nations
your INHERITANCE
the ends of the earth
your  POSSESSION.”

A Prayer from Psalms 2 & 3 –

WHY?
Why do the nations conspire ?
and the peoples plot?
And why do the kings of the earth take their stand
and the rulers gather against the LORD ?
BE WISE
BE WARNED
His wrath can flare up in a moment.

LORD, we see all those who don’t yet know you.
Their mouths curse you and they lead others down the same wide path.
If only they knew…
Fill us with the fortitude to cry out Your same warning, “Be wise!”.
LORD, make us aware!
Open our eyes to the battles that are raging in the heavenlies!
Remind us this battle is not against flesh and blood.

But He said to me,
“You are my Son;
Today I have become your Father.
ASK
and I will make the nations
your INHERITANCE
the ends of the earth
your  POSSESSION.”

LORD, how utterly humbling it is that we too can be called
Your sons and daughters!
That You, the King of kings and Lord of lords, would be called
our Father.
Remind us of our position in this world and the one to come!
Stir our hearts to ASK for the nations!
That all those who are lost…the same who rage and plot against You,
would be found.

Therefore…
SERVE the LORD with fear
REJOICE with trembling.

Because You are ours, and we are Yours,
we REJOICE to serve you!
We fall down before you and worship you
in all reverence and awe.

BLESSED are those who take refuge
in Him.
He is a SHIELD around us.
He SUSTAINS us.
We lie down, and sleep, and wake again.

Our security in in You alone.
Because of who You are-  Above All
we run to You for help and comfort.
Though we fear Your majesty, You have called us Sons.
Remind us to COME boldly into your throne room.
To sit.  To ask.  To rest.  To learn.  To know.
Thank you for sustaining us, and blessing us, and keeping us.

From the LORD comes
DELIVERANCE.

There is no one like You God!
May your blessing be on your people.
And may Your name be feared throughout all nations.
